# What is an NVOI-certified implantologist and why choose one?
Not every dentist who places implants has completed additional specialist training. An NVOI-certified implantologist has demonstrably proven their expertise through education and practical experience assessed by the professional association.

## What is the NVOI?

The NVOI (Dutch Society for Oral Implantology) is the professional association for implantologists in the Netherlands. Membership requires demonstrable expertise and ongoing professional development. Only dentists who meet the NVOI requirements may call themselves NVOI-certified.

## What is the ITI and an ITI Fellowship?

The ITI (International Team for Implantology) is a global scientific network in the field of oral implantology. An ITI Fellowship is awarded to practitioners who contribute to research, education or clinical excellence. An ITI Fellow belongs to the international top of implantology specialists.

## Why does this matter for you as a patient?

Implant treatment requires more than placing a screw. Bone assessment, planning via 3D scan, tissue management and the choice of implant system together determine whether the treatment is successful in the long term. A certified implantologist has demonstrably built up the knowledge required for this.
